Semykhody station is the destination for those living 50 km away in Slavutych who remain employed at the next door Chernobyl Power Plant. As can be seen from the map below, the station is essentially a siding on the now largely defunct Chernihiv - Ovruch line.
Semykhody is the only publicly open station in the zone and exists solely to transport workers between the plant and Slavutych. Some of the line beyond the plant is still open, but only for use by the plant itself.
Approach to Semykhody Station
It is possible with the proper paperwork to visit the zone using the worker's train from Slavutych. The vast majority of visitors to the zone come via the Dytiatky checkpoint, however, some tours can arrange permission to arrive at Semykhody. Remember, the train only exists to serve the plant and you cannot take the train to Semykhody and not get off. In other words only get on if you have permission to visit the zone otherwise you could well be breaking the law.
